Rejuvenate Your Skin: Hydrating Treatments in La Jolla
Why coastal living dehydrates skin, the hydrating facials and infusions offered at BeautyMark Shop in La Jolla, and how to keep the glow going at home.
La Jolla is a gift for the soul and a challenge for the skin. Sun most days of the year, salt in the air, ocean swims and the dry Santa Ana winds all pull moisture out of the skin barrier. Dehydrated skin looks dull, shows fine lines sooner, feels tight by afternoon and, counter-intuitively, often produces more oil to compensate. The fix is not a heavier cream. It is restoring water to the skin and repairing the barrier that keeps it there.
Hydration versus moisture
Two words that get used interchangeably but describe different things. Hydration is the water content inside the skin. Moisture is the oil on top that seals water in. Skin can be oily and dehydrated at the same time, which is why so many people in sunny climates are treating the wrong problem. A professional consultation tells you which one you actually need, and most skin needs both in different proportions.
Hydrating treatments at BeautyMark Shop
Every facial here is customized after looking at your skin, but several treatments are built specifically around hydration.
Oxygen facial
Pressurized oxygen delivers a serum of hyaluronic acid, vitamins and botanicals into the skin. The result is immediate: plumper texture, a calm, even tone and a glow that lasts for days. It is a favorite before events and for anyone whose skin feels tired.
Sothys Institute treatment
Sothys is a French professional line with a serious hydration protocol. Layered masks and concentrates rebuild the barrier and flood the skin with water-binding ingredients, applied with the Digi-Esthétique® method, a massage technique that blends acupressure and modelling movements to improve circulation and help the actives absorb. Sothys reports that after a single treatment, every client surveyed found their skin more hydrated and more radiant.
The hydrating treatment runs in six phases:
- Ultra-hydration gel balm with aloe vera, allantoin and colloidal oatmeal to comfort and calm the skin, especially if it is dry or sensitive.
- Gentle scrub paste with ground oats, sugar and jojoba beads to lift dead cells and impurities without scratching.
- Hydrating concentrated ampoule, a dense dose of moisture to quench the skin.
- Hydra-ceramide serum to rebalance and help the skin hold on to the water it has just been given.
- Regenerating modelling cream worked in with the Digi-Esthétique massage to boost the skin’s own hydration mechanism.
- Plumping SOS mask and nutri-replenishing elixir for an intensely plumped, dewy finish.
Rezenerate treatment
Rezenerate uses nano-scale technology to create micro-channels in the very top of the skin, allowing hydrating serums to reach far deeper than they could on their own. No needles, no downtime, dramatically better absorption.
Dermalogica and à la carte facials
For skin that needs a tailored approach, Tali builds a facial from the Dermalogica menu or à la carte steps, choosing hydrating exfoliants, masks and serums that respect sensitive or reactive skin.
Hanakasumi for the body
Hydration is not only for the face. The Hanakasumi™ body treatment pairs a dual mechanical and enzymatic exfoliation with a nourishing massage, leaving skin from the neck down soft and replenished.
The at-home routine that keeps it going
Treatments give skin a head start; the daily routine keeps it there. A few principles Tali teaches every client:
- Cleanse gently. Foaming, squeaky-clean cleansers strip the barrier. Choose a cream or milk cleanser, especially in the evening.
- Hydrate on damp skin. Apply a hyaluronic acid or glycerin serum while skin is still slightly wet, then seal with a moisturizer.
- Do not skip sunscreen. UV damage weakens the barrier that holds water. A daily SPF is the most effective anti-aging and hydrating step there is.
- Exfoliate on a schedule, not daily. Over-exfoliation is the most common cause of dehydrated skin we see in the studio.
- Book consistently. A hydrating facial every four to six weeks, alternated with other modalities, keeps skin resilient through the seasons.
